Special shaped bricks are essential in construction and can add decorative touches. From capping, rounded, and plinth brickwork to specially designed habitat boxes and lightweight pre-fabricated arches, special shapes and pieces are essential in construction.

Our purpose-made, cut, bonded and refaced specials are manufactured to comply with BS EN ISO 9001:2015 and the Environmental standard BS EN ISO 14001:2015.

What are brick specials?

Brick specials' is a term that refers to any brick that has been altered from its original size and shape in order to suit a specific detail requirement on site.

There are a number of British Standard pieces with commonly recognised article codes and quite often there is a need to produce bespoke items to a non-standard specification for a tailor-made solution required for the build.

They can be functional or decorative and are also useful as they can save time on site and ensure durability of design. Whatever your requirements, AAB can provide a solution.

Angle and Cant Bricks

Also known as non-90 degree corners. Providing flexibility and choice, these British Standard bricks are designed to allow the designer to turn brickwork through angles or chamfered designs both vertically and horizontally.

Bonding Bricks

Bonding is the arrangement of bricks to allow them to module in a specific way. This ensures stability throughout the facade whilst also offering a unique design pattern in the brickwork.

Concealment of Construction

Brickwork can be used as a method of concealment to cover construction elements such as steel angles, lintels, concrete toes or edge beams. The overall result of applying these special bricks is a uniform and matching facade throughout the project.

Sills

Overhanging sills are designed to provide the correct level of overhand and drip detail on window surrounds. This protects a facade from water penetration and ensures durable brickwork that withstands the test of time.

Plinth Brickwork

Providing detailing and interest, these British Standard plinth bricks allow the designer to move the brickwork forward and backwards whilst moving up the facade. Plinth bricks are often used to create simple feature steps in residential projects but can also be used to create more intricate details such as entrances and exits from recessed or protruding feature panels.

Providing resilience and attractive detailing, our wall capping options offer unique design solutions to retaining, standalone and garden walls.

Soldier Bricks

Soldier bricks are designed to help maintain bond through changes of angle and pitch whilst using soldier bond.

Rounded Detailing

Rounded detailing is created by using radial brick specials to form circular brick features without the use of tapered joints.

Arches

We produce a range of non structural arches. Our arches are pre fabricated non structural building elements. They are designed to increase site efficiency and remove the need for intricate and slow brick work on site.

Habitat boxes

Working with a specialist ecology manufacturer we have sourced expertly designed brick eco-habitats. These include swift boxes, sparrow boxes, bat boxes and bee bricks. These allow for easy installation on site whilst maintaining the originally specified brick appearance and bond.

We supply a wide range of brick slips produced at our in house cutting facility in the UK. Here we utilise the very latest capital equipment & techniques to produce slips for your project to the highest standards.

Brick Slips

Our range of brick slips can be cut from any brick in our range. Whether you require a slip between 21 to 50mm with a smooth back for a bonded application or a kerfed slip for a rail system, these can all be produced at our in house cutting facility in the UK. Here we utilise the very latest capital equipment & techniques to produce concealment of construction and slips for your project to the highest standards.
